Twitter Hints

I learned a couple of good Twitter hints from my colleague Alex Freire. He's a smart, fun, and entertaining guy and you should follow him @freire_da_silva.

Follow At Least 1000 People

When I first joined Twitter I felt anxious about missing tweets. It only took me following about 400 people before I got comfortable with filing tweet bankruptcy.

Following 1000 or more pretty much makes you declare bankruptcy every hour.

As you follow more and more people with the same interests though, the things that interest you the most get retweeted and Twitter's real time nature starts to shine.

Crowd-Sourcing Content

When you follow more and more folks who like the same things you do, you are crowd-sourcing content.

As Alex said, "If you follow more than 1000 people, the most interesting article/tweets come to the top."
