Doing the Values Activity
How daily use is going and reflections on the values activity.
Using the Franklin Planner
I'm making really good use of the planner. Planning weekly and planning daily; using the values after doing the values activity to help plan the big rocks.
I'm still keeping super important things I need reminded about and have fixed deadlines in my Google Calendar until I'm confident in my daily use of the planner first thing in the morning.
I'm building the habit of opening the planner first thing in the morning. Not the colloquial use, but literally the first activity of the day.
Reflections on the Values Activity
As I mentioned in my initial blog, I bought the Universal Starter Pack that included a planner guide with activities that help plan the big rocks and lead you towards a Mission Statement.
The Mission Statement not only serves as your mission in life, but also the first place you look when planning your week.
It should be concise but long enough to serve as a light house.
Doing the values activity has been hard for me in the past. This probably the third or fourth time I've done the activity. The difference today is I'm not letting the perfect delay the good enough.
My values are going to change over time, so spending hours and hours getting the perfect set of values is wasting time I could use to write my technical blog posts.
Other than that, the values activity was straight forward and only took me about 30 minutes. Time well spent since I can put them to use right away planning my week.
Next activity is roles. Another one I historically fight against, but again I'll not let the perfect delay the good enough. I'm actually looking forward to it.
